Temple at Tanah Lot and Its Story

Tanah Lot is an important temple for Balinese Hindus. Besides that, Tanah Lot become one of the famous tourist attraction in Bali Island that must be visited. That is why this place is always be crowded with tourist visits in almost every day, especially in the afternoon, before sunset.

Tanah Lot also become the perfect place to see the sunset in Bali because of the beauty of sunset views with temple silhouettes. Every spots in Tanah Lot are often become one of the great prewedding photo locations in Bali.

Holy Snake in the Hole of Cliff

Tanah Lot is surrounded by cliffs that have holes that looks like a form like little caves. In one of the caves is lived some holy snakes. It is called as a holy snake because according to the story, the snake is the incarnation of the temple shawl. The holy snake of Tanah Lot was assigned as the guardian of the temple.

The Attraction of Tanah Lot

Along the road to Tanah Lot, there are many lodging that will be found. Start from simple lodging, villas until star hotels that close to the beach which hold various events at night. The events are such as the Kecak dance performance, sunset dinner and wedding party.

Temple Area at Low Sites

From the parking lot to the temple area, there are many shops selling a variety of Balinese handicrafts such as sculptures, paintings, beach cloths, trinkets, and accessories. The price is relatively cheap for domestic and foreign tourists. Not only shops, there are also many food and beverage vendors, as well as small room rentals.

Temple Area at High Sites

The location where the temple of Tanah Lot is placed actually unique. The temple was built in two different places. One temple is located on a large boulder, and the other is located on a cliff that juts into the sea which looks similar to the tourist sites of Uluwatu Temple. The cliff which the shape of a curved like a bridge connects the temple to the mainland.

Tanah Lot Temple is part of the Kahyangan Jagat Temple in Bali, intended as a place to worship the guardian deity of the sea. It is safe to be around the area of the temple during the low tides. Because at high tide, the temple will appear surrounded by sea water.

Best Time to Visit

Because the main attraction of Tanah Lot lies in the beauty of the sunset scenery with the temple silhouette, then the best time to visit is at 17:00 Wita or 5pm in Indonesia Time. Most tourists will spend vacation time at this attraction on average 1 hour 30 minutes.

The sunset times always change every day that is why sunset schedule checking activity become so important to do to become easier in finding the right time of the sunset.

Access:

The distance is about 13 km to the west of the city of Tabanan. It is less than 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Tanah Lot from Ngurah Rai airport.

There is an entrance ticket along with parking fee that required to pay to be able entering the area.
